ONDERZOEKSINSTELLINGEN / RESEARCH INSTITUTES

Centrum voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling / Centre for sustainable development (CDO/CSD)

Als onderzoeksgroep aan de Universiteit Gent wil het Centrum voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling (CDO) op een wetenschappelijke manier een bijdrage leveren om het concept van duurzame ontwikkeling naar de praktijk te vertalen. Een van de onderzoekslijnen houdt zich vooral bezig met mobiliteit en verkeersveiligheid, waaronder een groot aandachtspunt naar ISA.

The aim of the centre is to use an interdisciplinary methodology for the elaboration on the sustainable development as a social framework. One of the topics is doing research in ISA and road-safety. The CSD had also a leading role in the research on the Ghent ISA-trial.

CROW

CROW is een Nederlands kennisplatform. CROW is werkzaam op de terreinen: openbare ruimte, infrastructuur en verkeer en vervoer. Ze verzamelen, bundelen en publiceren kennis over onder meer: mobiliteitsbeheersing, openbaar vervoer, fietsparkeren, rotondes, beeldbestekken en digitale producten voor het bouwproces. Maar ook bouwmaterialen, onderhoud openbare ruimte, ontwerptechnische onderwerpen en verkeersvoorzieningen komen aan bod.

Instituut voor Duurzame Mobiliteit (IDM)

De ingenieur van de 21ste eeuw zal sterk geconfronteerd worden met het mobiliteitsvraagstuk: thuis, op het werk, in zijn verplaatsingspatronen, … Van hem zal ook worden verwacht dat hij oplossingen formuleert die voor de toekomstige samenleving een "duurzame" (sustainable) ontwikkeling betekenen. Deze oplossingen die hij creëert moeten beantwoorden aan kwaliteit, veiligheid, energiezuinig gebruik, … . Meer en meer groeit de overtuiging dat een "geïntegreerde" aanpak (technisch en maatschappelijk) noodzakelijk is voor duurzame oplossingen inzake mobiliteit; dit tegen de achtergrond van een "mondiale" en "regionale" strategie.

Instituut voor Mobiliteit (IMOB)

Het Instituut voor Mobiliteit is een onafhankelijk wetenschappelijk onderzoeksinstituut, verbonden aan het Limburgs Universitair Centrum. De missie van het instituut is het uitwerken van duurzame oplossingen voor problemen in de domeinen van mobiliteit en verkeersveiligheid. Deze missie tracht IMOB te realiseren zowel op nationaal als internationaal niveau door:

het uitvoeren van wetenschappelijk onderbouwd fundamenteel en toegepast onderzoek
het aanbieden van opleidingen in mobiliteit en verkeer
het verstrekken van dienstverlening op verschillende niveaus

Leeds University

Leeds University does research at ISA and also started up a project in the UK.

Lund University

"Traffic and Road" in the Department of Technology and Society has been involved in analysing the result of the ISA project in Lund.

Monash University (new link)

The Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) has established itself as the leading Australian organization undertaking research into the impact of in-vehicle Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) on driver performance, behaviour and safety.

University of Nottingham online Planning Resources (new link)

The comprehensive bibliographies are designed primarily for use by students taking modules in the Institute of Urban Planning, School of the Built Environment, University of Nottingham, U.K. The lists therefore cover a very wide range of current planning topics but do not include all. Most of the bibliographies are regularly updated. The lists particularly focus on items on planning in England (and especially the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire areas) rather than other parts of the UK, although some important items from Wales and Scotland are also included. Several of the reading lists contain a specific section on (other) European / International material. There is a separate list of Planning and Planning-related organisations, contact details and websites.

Steunpunt Verkeersveiligheid

Het Steunpunt Verkeersveiligheid werd in 2001 opgericht door de Vlaamse overheid om de verkeersveiligheid in Vlaanderen te verbeteren door middel van beleidsrelevant wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De best presterende landen op vlak van verkeersveiligheid hebben een decennialange traditie in wetenschappelijk onderzoek, maar in Vlaanderen is het Steunpunt het eerste multidisciplinaire initiatief van dergelijke omvang. Het Steunpunt telt thans 15 onderzoekers die tevens verbonden zijn aan onderzoeksgroepen van de partnerinstellingen: het Limburgs Universitair Centrum, de Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg, de Vrije Universiteit Brussel en de Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek.

SWOV

De SWOV wil een bijdrage leveren aan de bevordering van de verkeersveiligheid met kennis uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De SWOV is een inhoudelijk onafhankelijk, wetenschappelijk instituut. Kennis van de SWOV is openbaar en wordt beschikbaar gesteld aan een ieder, die zich beroepsmatig bezighoudt met verkeer en verkeersveiligheid in Nederland. De SWOV geniet in binnen- en buitenland aanzien als gezaghebbend instituut dankzij haar kennis en het hoogwaardige onderzoek dat zij verricht.

SWOV's knowledge is public information and is made available to anyone who wants it, and is professionally involved in traffic and road safety in the Netherlands. Here you can find also publications on ISA.

ActMAP

The aim of the ActMAP project is to investigate and develop mechanisms for online incremental updates of digital map databases into the vehicle. Up-to-date map components containing dynamic or static location-based content should be integrated and/or attached to the in-vehicle digital map

Bamadas (new link)

Aims of the project are: (1) improving the theoretical, and empirical and design knowledge regarding road vehicle driver behaviour in interaction with advanced driver assistance systems; (2) the transfer of this knowledge to deployment strategies for these systems focusing on infrastructure design and traffic management under varying spatial conditions; (3) the improvement of the knowledge regarding system certification and liability regulation in a multi-actor environment.

The french project on Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA)

PREVENT

The Integrated Project PReVENT is a European automotive industry activity co-funded by the European Commission to contribute to road safety by developing and demonstrating preventive safety applications and technologies. Preventive safety applications help drivers to avoid or mitigate an accident through the use of in-vehicle systems which sense the nature and significance of the danger, while taking the driver’s state into account.

PROSPER

Prosper stands for Project for Research On Speed adaptation Policies on European Roads.

The PROSPER proposal is responding to the Key Action "Sustainable Mobility and Intermodality", and specifically to research task 2.3.1/16 "Road Speed Management Methods Assessment" defined in the call. The PROSPER project is designed to fully comply with the task description, as regards objectives, indicated methodology and expected results. This project also does research on ISA.

SASPENCE

The main goal of SASPENCE is to develop and evaluate an innovative system able to perform the Safe Speed and Safe Distance concept, that means to aid the driver in avoiding accident situations related to excessive speed or too small headway. So, the system should co-operate seamlessly with the driver, suggesting the proper velocity for the given condition (road structure, traffic situation, etc.) preventing risky and dangerous situations and thus avoiding collision.

Speed Alert

The SpeedAlert project's main objectives are to harmonise the in-vehicle speed alert concept definition and to investigate the first priority issues to be addressed at the European level, such as the collection, maintenance and certification of speed limit information.

Traffic Safe Young Drivers

Website about the new trial with 300 young ISA-drivers in North Jutland Denmark. The overall purpose of the project is to examine whether equipment for Intelligent Speed Adaptation installed in young drivers’ cars, in combination with discounts on insurance fees, can motivate young road users to reduce their speeds and thus possibly save lives. The project is designed to conduct research into the field of economic motivational factors in traffic behaviour and also into the field of GPS-based digital speed maps.

VITSA

VITSA is the Swedish abbreviation for Evolvement of ITS Applications (Intelligent Transport Systems), as of today an accepted term within the industry. The VITSA project was born in November, 2001 and is the collective name for numerous projects within the area of Intelligent Transport Systems.

ORGANISATIES EN BEDRIJVEN / ORGANISATIONS AND COMPANIES

De actiegroep 4x4info (new link)

De actiegroep 4x4info wil de nadelen van 4x4's (of SUV's) voor het leefmilieu, onze gezondheid en het verkeer in het daglicht plaatsen. De actiegroep zal NIET met modder gooien naar 4x4 rijders (en ook niet naar hun jeeps).

Drive Up Safety (DUS)

DUS heeft tot doel vooral jongeren op een positieve manier warm te maken voor een nieuwe manier van rijden! De "nieuwe" bestuurder is in! Alcohol, drugs, doodmoe achter het stuur kruipen, veel te snel over de wegen scheuren, dit kan niet meer. De nieuwe bestuurder weet dat dit niet kan en is er ook trots zijn nieuwe rijgedrag. We gaan ervoor: DUS zal er voor zorgen dat deze manier van denken de gangbare regel wordt en geen uitzondering. De organisatie wordt opgebouwd rond vrijwillige jonge medewerkers die deze manier van denken ondersteunen en samen meewerken om de "nieuwe" bestuurder te promoten door acties en campagnes op het terrein!

ERTICO

ERTICO – ITS Europe is a multi-sector, public/private partnership pursuing the development and deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS). ERTICO exist to promote a single successful pan-European ITS market and to ensure that European interests are fully represented throughout the world.

European Transport Safety Council (ETSC)

ETSC is a Brussels-based independent non-profitmaking organisation dedicated to the reduction of the number and severity of transport crash injuries in Europe.

Fietsersbond

In de bebouwde kom zijn controles en onbemande camera's onvoldoende efficiënt, de infrastructuur aanpassen kost te veel. De Fietsersbond pleit daarom voor de invoering van ISA in nieuwe voertuigen en het verplicht opleggen van de installatie in bestaande voertuigen van bestuurders die regelmatig snelheidsovertredingen begaan.

Imita

Imita's goal is to increase traffic safety for vehicle users and the public within the area of "active car safety". They do this by developing, manufacturing and marketing new products and systems to the market like the ISA-device: the Active Accelerator Pedal (AAP).

KOMIMO

KOMIMO is een permanent overlegforum tussen mobiliteits- en milieuverenigingen die hun inspanningen op het raakvlak tussen milieu en mobiliteit coördineren.

Swedish Road Administration (SRA)

They were involved in the biggest ISA-trial in Europe. On this site you can also find the final report of the Swedish trial in four city's with more than 4000 cars.

SWECO

SWECO is the Nordic region's leading provider of consulting services in the fields of engineering, environmental technology and architecture. SWECO har been involved as expert and project manager in most ISA-related project in Sweden. Including Large Scale Trials, VITSA and PROSPER.

Telematics Cluster

The Telematics Cluster accelerates the use of intelligent telematics solutions in the area of traffic management, mobility and logistics. The members of the Telematics Cluster form a unique platform, representing all stakeholders of the business: users, operators, integrators, technology suppliers and knowledge institutes. The Telematics Cluster actively stimulates the collaboration of private companies with regional, national and European governments for the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). It is our mission to assist our members in building a solid future-proof telematics strategy in a European context, by stimulating innovation, collaboration and business development. We believe in a pragmatic project-based approach, where networking events and individual advice are combined with workshops and validation projects.

De voetgangersbeweging / Belgian Pedestrian Movement

De voetgangersbeweging wil ISA tegen 2010 toegepast zien in Europa. Om dit te bereiken willen ze het draagvlak van ISA vergroten. Dit zowel bij de plaatselijke als Europese politici, en bij de burger.

They start a campaign for the benefits of ISA in Belgium. Also they have an online petition suporting the implementation of ISA in 2010 (in Dutch).

Vlaamse Stichting Verkeerskunde (VSV)

De Vlaamse Stichting Verkeerskunde (VSV) werd in 1990 bij decreet opgericht door het Vlaams parlement. De toenemende mobiliteitproblematiek maakte het immers noodzakelijk om meer mensen te vormen betreffende verkeerskunde. De VSV is bedoeld als centrum waar kennis wordt ontwikkeld en verspreid.

European Road Safety Charter

Road safety is a major concern that is receiving an increasing amount of attention throughout Europe. Not only does it affect us all but we all have a role to play in making our roads safer. The European Road Safety Charter is much more than a policy document. It is an invitation by the European Commission to continue taking concrete actions assess results and further heighten awareness about the need to reduce road accident fatalities.
